The Made in JLM blog is open for every writer in the Jerusalem tech community, expert or novice, to submit your ideas and give them a stage.

In this article we will discuss what kind of essays we like to publish — why we write, who we’re writing for, what to write about and how.

We hope you’ll find these guidelines useful, and thank you for taking the time to share your story of Jerusalem.

Your audience are the people of the Jerusalem startup community.

Thousands of Entrepreneurs, Developers, Designers, Marketers, investors, lawyers, accountants, municipality and academics.

Your purpose is to inform, connect and inspire.

  • Let people know what’s going on in the tech scene around them, and equip them with professional knowledge to help them do better work from Jerusalem.
  • Shine a spotlight on the names and stories of community members that everyone should know.
  • Show people the vision for a better Jerusalem. Tell stories of people who are doing the impossible. Touch hearts and give hope.

6 Kinds of Articles We Write

70% of the content we write — short and easy.

  1. News Burst: Short news-worthy articles covering relevant local happenings. Examples could be: Jerusalem Startup achievements, interesting events, or important visitors.
  2. Local Tips: e.g. Where to hire developers in Jerusalem, how to leverage the strong tourism in Jerusalem for your startup, etc.
  3. Announcement: Explanatory articles from the Made in Jerusalem team about new projects, features, and plans for the future.

30% — more effort, but worth it

  1. Personal Interest Story: Interviews with key figures and personas of the Jerusalem community that we choose to highlight, usually longer “personal interest” pieces on their story.
  2. Trend and prophecy: Opinion pieces about general trends in Jerusalem and the startup world, and where things are headed.
  3. Technical Reviews of Jerusalem products and services, comparative articles and more.

We do not write “me-too” articles

Try to avoid generic, “4 ways to improve your marketing” type articles, that could easily have been posted anywhere else.

The only exception to this rule are articles that bear special relevance to Jerusalem. For example: “4 things I learned running my first marketing marathon in Jerusalem” sounds like a great piece.

Guidelines for any article

  • Names, Names, Names. You want to mention as many names and add pictures with as many faces as possible. Made in Jerusalem is a community magazine. People love to read about people they know, and share information about friends.
  • Links. Always go over your article and add links to companies and people mentioned in the article, especially those from Jerusalem. Link to other good content in the Made in JLM magazine and in the community.
  • Headline. Invest 20-50% of your time in a powerful headline. 80% of the people exposed to your article will only ever read that.

Finally, some timeless writing advice

from legendary Ad Man David Ogilvy.

“The better your write at Made in Jerusalem, the higher you will go ;)” Looking forward to writing together,

the Made in JLM team.
